# Daniela Delneri Source: https://hello.cv/danieladelneri ## About Daniela is currently a Full Professor at the University of Manchester in the area of Evolutionary and Functional Genomics and became Associate Dean for Research and Innovation in Biology/Biotech in November 2023. In previous years she was the Research Director of the “Computational and Evolutionary Biology” Group in the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Manchester (2013-2016). As undergraduate, she studied Biological Sciences and graduated with 110/110 cum Laude (1991) from the University of Trieste, Italy, with a thesis in the field of infection and medical microbiology. She was awarded the PhD in Biochemistry in 1997 (University of Trieste & ICGEB, Area Science Park, Trieste), where she focussed on biodegradation pathways of lignocellulose derivatives in bacteria and yeast. She was able to secure an EC TMR Senior Fellow at UMIST (1997-1999) studying the importance of genetic redundancy on evolutionary processes. She started her independent career in 2004 as NERC Advanced Fellow at the University of Manchester, UK. With twenty-five years’ worth of experience in yeast genetics and molecular biology, she focusses on understanding the interplay between genes and environment, including plasticity of mutations in protein coding genes and non-coding RNAs elements, the impact of chromosomal rearrangements on reproductive isolation and fitness, and the evolution of genomes in hybrid species including biotechnological aspects.
